The singular beauty of Matanzas

My trip to Matanzas was very relaxing. The city is also known as the Athens of Cuba, the Venice of the Caribbean, the Sleeping Beauty and the City of Bridges. It has a spectacular bay, more than twenty bridges and many eclectic neighborhoods. It has a great cultural tradition: it is the cradle of the rumba, the danzon and land of great poets and musicians.

The city is clean and elegant, with an outstanding natural environment. It was a pleasure to explore the framework of its streets. Walk freely to Libertad Park, the old Plaza de Armas, the Artistic and Literary Lyceum, the Government Palace. Beautiful and peculiar is its Pharmaceutical Museum and the Cathedral of San Carlos: patron of the city.

In the Plaza de la Vigía I enjoyed rumba evenings, specifically in the surroundings of the Provincial Museum. As I was near the Fausto Theater, I decided to visit it. I was impressed by its exceptional acoustics, its neo-classical structure, its Greek-inspired statues in Carrara marble and its beautiful Neo-Renaissance frescoes.

The nature outside the city is exuberant. Memorable sites are the Valley of Yumurí and the Pan de Matanzas, the Bacunayagua bridge (the highest in Cuba). In addition, the Bellamar Caves, the Canímar River, the Coral Beach and the Maya Lagoon.

You can´t miss the opportunity to go hiking, horseback riding, diving on the reefs or take a boat ride. You can´t miss a visit of the beautiful beach of Varadero, ideal to spend a couple of days and go to the Golf Club, if you are lovers of this sport like me. In short, it was another sensational experience.
